Okay, let’s talk money, honey! This can be somewhat of an awkward subject to approach, but it’s okay because we’re going to do it together.
You’ve been imagining your day for years or maybe you’ve just started collecting ideas. No matter which scenario you fall under, as soon as you start putting those ideas into practice, you realize how quickly the costs accumulate.
You need a plan, right from the start. So where’s the start?
With you and your fiance. Have an honest conversation about where your values lie and how much you’re willing to contribute to your own wedding weekend (yes, weekend, not just day). Write that number on a piece of paper and live with it for a few days. Does it still feel right? Then, how will you reach that number? Do you have savings or will you create debt for it? Be clear!
Then, go outside of your partnership and have the HARD conversations with family. Even if your family hasn’t mentioned contributing in the past, we recommend still having the talk. Perhaps they want to pay for a particular vendor’s cost (your mom’s a major floral fan or your dad is set on you having a band!) or they have a certain number in mind that they’ll give you no matter what. It’s your job to figure out how much they’re willing to contribute and you need to be clear about that number.
So now what? Well see where all this information puts you and start putting together a budget for your wedding weekend (notice how I keep saying weekend– not day)!!
Unsure about your budget and how to estimate costs? It’s one of our specialties, so just reach out!
