Hey y’all! Summertime in Maine is my absolute favorite, and the reason why I stick out those rough winter months! So if you’re visiting now or later on in the year, when the temperature rises, try out some of these activities and places. I know you’ll love them!
It’s basically a rule here that when in Maine, especially in the summer, you have to have seafood! Eventide Oyster Co. and The Lobster Shack are both great places for that! I have to go to The Lobster Shack at least once a summer, usually with my family- it’s where my parents got engaged!
If I could start every morning with a Scratch Baking Co. Maine Sea Salt Bagel, I would truly be living my best life. On your ride back into town, you have to stop at The Cookie Jar and grab a sweet treat. My picks are the cinnamon rolls or the lobster cookies.
Grab some friends and hit up El Rayo Taqueria for dinner (and maybe a drink too)! All of their tacos are delicious, but my pick are the fried shrimp ones! And- if you’re like me and have a major sweet tooth, you need to go to Red’s Dairy Freeze for some ice cream. If you happen to see strawberry on their flavors list, just go ahead and get a pint- you won’t regret it!
In between eating, you’ll need some things to do! Don’t worry- I’ve got you covered. Southern Maine has some great beaches, my favorites are Crescent Beach in Cape Elizabeth and Scarborough Beach in Scarborough! Or, you can get out on the water and take a trip to Peaks Island, whether you do a day trip or something longer, I know you’ll have a blast.
No trip to Portland is complete without a visit to The Portland Head Light, Maine’s oldest lighthouse and one of its prettiest (see the picture above, taken on a gorgeous July day). If you still have time, go strawberry picking at Maxwell’s Farm or maybe blueberry picking if that’s more your speed!
How to end the day? Take a stroll through the Old Port, with tons of shops and restaurants, there’s something for everyone. Plus, it’s a great place to see the sunset!
I hope you enjoy Maine as much as I do!

Becca
