Maine is special for so many reasons: maybe it’s where you vacationed as a child, or where your grandmother’s cottage is located, it might even be where you got married to the love of your life. Adding to the lengthy list of reasons Maine is beautiful- you just can’t beat the summers here. We wanted to create a list of our favorite outdoor summer activities like hikes, biking, sailing adventures and more.
Hiking:
Acadia National Park has some of the best views in Maine so if you’re up for the trek don’t miss out on the Beehive Trail and Ocean Trail. Ocean Trail provides a view of the Atlantic Ocean and requires less experience. Beehive trail can be intimidating as you cross rungs to fins the peak but the views of ocean as far as you can see make it worth the risk!
Don’t miss Maiden Cliff in Camden Hills State Park is about a 2 mile hike with views of Megunticook Lake 800 feet up. This trail has some steep incline paths but is relatively moderate.
If you’re heading to Moosehead Lake then Mount Kineo is a must! You access the mountain by boat first then climb to the summit with a fire tower that allows for 360 degrees of outlook of lake and trees.
Biking:
If a peaceful bike ride is more your speed then keep your eyes out for the following places to pedal. Back Cove Trail in Portland is a 3.6 mile loop around the cities water basin. A Portland Favorite is also the Eastern Promenade Trail offers water access as you bike to finish up with a swim or even to bring the family for a picnic at the many benches and picnic tables. Lighthouse Bikes also gives an in-depth tours visiting beaches, historic forts and lighthouses or maybe take a tour highlighting Maine Coastal Artists.
Family Friendly Outdoor Adventures:
If you come to Maine with your family and need some outdoor activities to do with kids here are our recommendations. When you visit Coastal Maine Botanical Garden, you get to explore more than 300 acres of garden by cart tour. Discover hidden trolls, garden story time, learn about honeybee communities and beekeeping demos and more rotating exhibits. If you’re looking for an Island Visit- head to Peaks Island where you can take stop by Maine Island Kayak to get out on the water and then grab a bite of classic Maine Island Lobster Company and enjoy freshly trapped lobster right from the boat!
Whatever brings you to Maine, make the most of your visit and get outside to enjoy the glorious weather while you can.
Love,
Marissa and Cassie
