Hi Friends,
Can’t decide whether you should hire a band or a DJ to play your wedding? We can help point you in the right direction.
When deciding between a band or a DJ it is important to take into consideration what’s most important to you. Think about:
your personal taste
what tone you’d like to set
your guests
your budget
the space limitations (if any)
A live band is always exciting and sure to get your guests onto the dance floor while also providing entertainment for guests who prefer not to dance. I love this aspect— entertaining those who don’t want to be active on the dance floor. Bands are also great for themed weddings, where you can find a band that specializes in music genre you prefer— 90’s band, rock music, jazz, plenty of options!
A band also offers some flexibility with your ceremony. When you have a band at your reception, you often have some talented musicians readily available for your ceremony and your cocktail hour. Maybe it’s a guitar player for your ceremony and a jazz trio for cocktail hour.
When deciding if a band is right for your wedding, keep in mind that they are often more expensive and require more space (they eat up plenty of that – often 20’ x 10’).
But you guys, bands are SO good. We love their energy! And I think theirs a myth: they are capable of so many genres!
DJs are a great way to create just the atmosphere you were hoping for. They are sure to play all your favorites while sounding just the way you had imagined. And with the ability to play a variety of music, they are able to appeal to many tastes which is sure to have your guests up and dancing.
When deciding if a DJ is right for your wedding, keep in mind that the personality of the DJ is super important for creating an exciting and memorable atmosphere. But also, keep in mind that DJs can emcee as much or as little as you want. Be sure to ask these questions when you’re hiring one.
A band may be the perfect fit for your wedding if music is high on your priority list and you are looking for a memorable experience that is sure to create excitement. Where a DJ may be the perfect fit if you are looking for a fully customizable playlist that is able to appeal to all your guests!
If you love the idea of live music but don’t have the budget for a band to play for the full day you could always have a small band play at your ceremony while having a DJ at your reception!
