As you’re planning your wedding, you already know that there are so many decisions to be made. Some of these details may feel like the biggest decision ever, while others may feel so minor in comparison. Buffet or plated meal? DJ or Band? Welcome drinks or farewell brunch? It can often be so overwhelming to make these decisions, and sometimes it may feel like you are trying to please your guests, despite it being your special day!
One of the decisions you may be thinking about is whether or not to do a first look. I am happy to report that there is no right answer to this question. This one is totally up to you and should be decided based on you and your fiancé. While I will never give you an answer because I truly believe this is such a personal choice, I can walk you through what you may want to consider when making your decision!
Do you want to be present at cocktail hour? If you have your heart set on mingling at cocktail hour, then you’re probably going to want to do a first look! If the first time you see your fiancé is when walking down the aisle, all of your portraits and photos together will have to be taken after the ceremony. This means while your guests are enjoying cocktail hour, you will be spending some of this time having your beautiful photos done. But don’t worry, our team promises to make sure you get to have tasty hors d’oeuvres and sip on your signature drinks!
The “first look” down the aisle! If you’re anything like me, you’ve dreamed of the moment your fiancé sees you coming down the aisle for the first time. Thinking about the tears in their eyes as they see you in your dress for the first time, never fails to give you butterflies! It is such a special moment to share not just between you and your fiancé, but your guests too. If this is something you have always imagined in your mind, skip the first look. This moment is once-in a lifetime, and it should be as special as you hoped!
Think about the day! While we will do everything in our power to make sure your day goes smoothly, it is likely that the morning leading up to your big day can be a little crazy. Hair and makeup artists filling the bridal suite, bridesmaids blasting the getting-ready playlists, and those pre-wedding jitters can all be a little much. If this sounds super stressful to you, maybe you do want a moment with your partner before walking down the aisle. Just a few minutes to see each other and be reminded what this day is all about can be super important for some people. This time can calm the nerves and allow you both to feel just a bit more centered!
It doesn’t have to be with your spouse! Some people love the ideal of a “big reveal” but don’t necessarily want to do a first look. You can still plan on doing a first look with anyone! Bridesmaids, parents, groomsmen, grandparents, or other special people in your life are all fantastic options. I have seen some brides do their first looks with their father and it is such a special moment. Regardless of who it’s with, you can make this moment special!
I think it’s safe to say that I definitely did not provide an answer to this burning question, but I hope I was able to give you some things to consider. I want to remind you to take your time when making a decision, and most importantly, make it together. You may be surprised at how many of your fiancés actually have an opinion on this one! As for the linen colors, I think you may still be on your own for that one!
